You mention that this YEM features an eerie theme...I've literally never heard anything like this from Phish. It sounds nothing like anything else they played in 1999 (or 1998 for that matter), but totally blew my mind the first time I heard it. It sounds composed, but I don't think they've ever returned to anything like this since then. A must-listen IMO.
While I have you...another "where did that come from" moment was during the Slave from Clifford Ball. Starting at about 2:40, they drop into almost a heavy-metal rhythm, then return to it again.
I don't think I'm crazy, but they do the exact same thing at about 15:00 mins of the 12/1/96 Tweezer. You have a near-encyclopedic knowledge of Phish shows and jams, I haven't found this mentioned elsewhere...so I wanted to mention it here. And to ask..am I nuts? Thx!
It's a wild show. I remember the first time I listened to it after the LP release I was like "How the fuck had I not heard of this show before." Agree with your assessment of Set 1 too. Sometimes they standard set ones have a je ne sais quois element that make them just perfect.
Each time I think I just have attendance bias for this show, I just listen again and I am reminded of how good it really is!
Such an underrated YEM. Love it

Common wisdom is that it's a jam on Alice Cooper's "I'm Eighteen," but I've never been quite convinced.
