There was definitely a lot of people there that were not familiar with the Talking Heads and the back half of the album is pretty odd. great stuff Rob. amazing reading this piece after just watching the Sci Fi Soldier set. So many years later they have clearly embraced the group concept and seemingly found a sustainable balance. sometimes it seems like phish teeters back and forth sometimes between trey leading and a more democratic approach, with this past halloween being more the latter. I remember reading a trey interview from a couple years ago where he mentions that page had talked with him recently about his role as leader and how he should perhaps embrace it more.
